There were many ups and downs throughout the 24 week Careers in Code Bootcamp. I would say there were more ups than downs, which led to the creation of this podcast. It wasn’t something that was just a “hey this might be cool” and never thought about type of thought, it was a “I need to research and look into this more” everyday on my mind type of thought.

The closer we got to finishing the program, the more I really wanted to create and host a podcast. I wanted to share my experiences from attending the bootcamp. I wanted others to know that if you want something bad enough and are determined and put in the work, your can achieve your goal. I wanted others in the area to know that there are people out there who will help you but, you might have to step out of your comfort zone sometimes.

There were about 3 weeks of the program left and we were starting to really demo our projects. Stressing about if we would be finished and getting all kinds of encouragement from all aspects of our lives. I can’t tell you the exact date but, one day in class I finally said out loud to Kelly “I want to start a podcast when we finish the program.” She looked surprised and thought that was a great idea.

We started talking more about it. I pointed out that I really don’t hear podcasts that have women as hosts. I wanted that to be one of the main components and that most of the “tech” podcasts were about a specific language or topic. My thought was to share experiences we encountered during the program and to share others experiences on their journey getting into the tech community.

Kelly liked all of those points and had a few of her own to add. She wanted to encourage and see more women get into the tech community. She wanted to show the diversity of all the different areas of tech in the Syracuse community. I loved those ideas and said “let’s do it” (those may not have been my exact words).

And so a podcast was created by two women, trying to break into the tech community that had been mostly male. We didn’t have all the details worked out but, we knew this was something we both wanted to do and it was going to take work to do it.

We have started our podcast journey and hope that you enjoy our episodes. We always welcome feedback and guests. If you would like to be a guest on our podcast you can sign up for a recording session here https://calendly.com/saltcitycode/90-minute-session.
